There is an initiative to use plastic and polythene to make mixed asphalt road surfacing. The Western Province WMA and the provincial road department are working with AGC Innovate Pvt Ltd whose new asphalt road surface uses around 6-8kg of dirty polythene plastics for each km of road surfacing. The programme is planned to expand. This reduces the import of bitumen.
