Proposal for Improving the wellbeing of H. Dh. Kulhudhuffushi people and ocean through plastic pollution prevention

Maldives Authentic Crafts Cooperative Society (MACCS) was awarded a Regional Competitive Block Grant (RBG) to implement sustainable and innovative solutions to reduce the flow of plastic pollution in the Maldives.

The project proposed by MACCS intends to reduce plastic waste generation and improve plastic waste management in and around Kulhudhuffushi, the economic capital of the Northern Maldives, through innovative measures.

MACCS began in 2011 as a symbol of hope and perseverance in the face of a diminishing local handicraft sector of centuries-old Maldivian craftsmanship. MACCS is a group of ten women who have formed bonds of friendship and purpose to protect traditions at risk of extinction. Their mission is to empower artisans across the atolls, breathe new life into endangered art forms, and cultivate a local industry of authentic crafts made by Maldivian men and women.
