Trash has Value – Recycling plastic waste to Eco green Tiles/Bricks

ISP Environmental Solutions (Pvt) Ltd (ISP) was awarded a Regional Block Grant (RBG) to implement the project ‘Trash has Value – Recycling plastic waste to Eco green Tiles/Bricks’

This project aims to reduce single-use plastic consumption by incentivizing plastic waste collection, providing reusable plastic bottles and bags, and building community capacity through training and clean-up drives. In addition to planning to install reverse vending machines and providing color-coded waste bins, the project will intercept plastic waste before it reaches rivers and seas. Additionally, it will repurpose waste into eco-bricks, offering a sustainable construction alternative that reduces water and carbon footprints, challenging the conventional view of waste and advancing the circular economy.

Founded in 2018, ISP Environmental Solutions (Pvt) Ltd has been working towards creating solutions and strategies that utilise Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM).

Objectives

Outcome :
The project aims to combat plastic pollution and promote a circular plastic economy in areas adjacent to the Ravi River. Key initiatives include installing a reverse vending machine and creating eco-bricks from plastic waste, sand, and fly ash. The goal is to utilize approximately 20,000-25,000 MT of plastic waste.

Objectives:

  • Advocacy, mobilization, and Capacity Building for preserving life below water
  • Installation of reverse vending machine and Effective Collection of Plastic waste adjacent to river Ravi through an established circular economy approach
  • Responsible Consumption and production by redesigning of plastic waste for innovative infrastructure.
  • Partnership for action on plastic free rivers and seas

Key activities

  1. Raise waste management awareness at Lahore universities via social media, workshops, and clean-up drives with local partners.
  2. Install RVMs, launch app, and engage influencers. Monitor system, collaborate for waste collection, and promote plastic waste incentives. Support woman-owned recycling initiative.
  3. Secure approval, build the plant, and procure machinery for eco-brick production. Analyze data, ensure quality, and refine processes. Identify markets, enhance eco-bricks, monitor performance.
  4. Research policies, identify reform opportunities. Establish networks for policy dialogues through webinars.
