The Island Climate Initiative was awarded a Regional Competitive Block Grant (RBG) to implement the project “Overcoming Barriers, Taking Critical Steps: Advancing Plastic Recycling in Sri Lanka for its Circular Use”

Their project will address the three thematic areas, ‘Avoid’ theme by recycling plastic waste and integrating it into packaging, ‘Intercept’ by creating demand for high-quality recycled plastics, setting guidelines for recycling activities, and providing incentives for plastic collection. In addition, under the ‘Redesign’ theme, it will develop innovative packaging solutions using recycled plastics, establish industry standards for r-plastic pellets, and set technical guidelines for packaging manufacturers.
