As part of the World Bank’s mission to Sri Lanka to assess the ongoing status of the PLEASE Project, Dr. Joseph Ese Akpokodje, Task Team Leader (TTL) for the Plastic Free Rivers and Seas for South Asia Project (PLEASE), The World Bank, Mr. Charles Callanan, Director, South Asia Multi-Country Office, UNOPS, and Ms. Anjalie Devaraja, Project Director, Project Implementation Unit (PIU), PLEASE Project, along with representatives from the project implementation unit (PIU), SACEP, and UNOPS, visited the construction site of the Regional Headquarters for the South Asia Co-operative Environment (SACEP). The SACEP HQ building is being constructed by UNOPS to achieve the vital component of strengthening regional integration institutions under the PLEASE Project.

The SACEP HQ stands as a harmonious blend of functionality, innovation, and environmental consciousness as it encapsulates facilities catering to diverse needs. From inclusive infrastructure for physically challenged individuals to a dedicated lactation room for breastfeeding mothers, gender-sensitive sanitary facilities, and a state-of-the-art auditorium with a 100-seat capacity, every aspect has been meticulously designed to foster a sense of unity and environmental consciousness.

As we continue on this journey towards a plastic-free, sustainable future, the SACEP HQ serves as a cornerstone, symbolizing the transformative power of collaborative efforts in shaping a better tomorrow.
