Component 3: Strengthening Regional Integration Institutions

The PLEASE project aims to strengthen its role in addressing plastic pollution and improving collaboration among member states. Component 3 of the project focuses on expanding SACEP’s capacity to coordinate regional action and build stronger partnerships with other organizations working on environmental challenges.

Component 3 of the PLEASE project focuses on building the institutional capabilities of SACEP to strengthen environmental management cooperation between regions. The project delivers specialized and tailored technical assistance to develop organizational capabilities and enhance regional partnership coordination for effective environmental management.

Through Component 3, the project has allocated funds to build SACEP’s new headquarters, which includes an eco-friendly auditorium and enlarged work areas. The new facility offers improved facilities for government seconded staff members while serving as a base for regional programs. The SACEP Headquarters was developed in accordance with international green building standards. The state-of-the-art, carbon-reduced facility will be based in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and is designed to be a center of excellence promoting regional cooperation in the fields of environment and conservation within South Asia. The construction site includes an approximately 1,600 square meter building. The new building is distinguished by a modern steel outer structure with numerous green spaces integrated around the premises.

Developed according to international green building standards, the state-of-the-art, carbon reduced headquarters will be based in Colombo, Sri Lanka and is designed to be a center of excellence to promote regional cooperation in the field of environment and conservation within South Asia.
