In Pakistan, the Plastic Free Rivers and Seas for South Asia Project addresses plastic pollution by improving waste management systems, fostering recycling initiatives, and raising public awareness. The project partners with local communities and authorities to implement sustainable practices, aiming to protect Pakistan’s rivers and marine environments from plastic waste.
As part of the PLEASE Project initiative to curb marine plastic pollution and ramp up eco-innovations to reinvent plastic use and production, the project has granted two Regional Block Grants (RBG) and two Innovation Grants (IG) to recipients from Pakistan from the component 1 phase of ‘Supporting Competitive Block Grant Investments to Reduce Plastic Waste’. The proposals came from various community-based organisations and institutions registered in participating South Asian nations, aiming to initiate change on the ground at local, national, and/or regional levels.
