From Waste to Credits; Circularity in Plastic Waste Management

Altas Pak from Pakistan was awarded a Regional Block Grant (RBG) to implement the project “From Waste to Credits; Circularity in Plastic Waste Management’.

This project aims to revolutionise plastic waste management by introducing plastic credits and carbon credits through the procurement of advanced recycling technology. The project will also establish Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) and develop educational modules to raise awareness and promote sustainable practices. Additionally, Altas will present a blueprint and knowledge product to the private sector, delivering a comprehensive project report based on insights and lessons learned, paving the way for scalable solutions in plastic waste management.

Altas Pak mission includes to support the formation of a clean and healthy environment, increasing the quality of life of people primarily through waste management and cleaning of cities and to provide cleaning and logistics services to public institutions and organisations in order to contribute to the creation of “Brand Cities”.

Objectives/Key Outcomes

Outcomes:
Plastic pollution in District Hyderabad, Sindh, has been reduced by developing a plastic waste recycling facility and adopting a circular economy approach.

Objectives:

  • Environmental conservation by reducing plastic waste in landfills
  • Community awareness campaigns on plastic pollution and the importance of recycling and waste segregation.
  • Establishment of a plastic recycling facility, creating local jobs and diversified revenue streams.
  • Sustainable solutions addressing local plastic pollution, with scalable and replicable benefits for other regions in Pakistan and beyond.

Key activities

  1. Development of a plastic waste recycling facility (fence poles) with a comprehensive Inception report covering methodology, technology, project management, stakeholder consultation
  2. Prepared a comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) with legal and regulatory assessment for the proposed project.
  3. Establishing a sustainable recycling facility in District Hyderabad to foster circular economy development.
  4. Created awareness through seminars and formed 7 community-based organizations (CBOs) with educational modules.
  5. Presented a blueprint and knowledge product to the private sector and compiled a project report based on insights and lessons learned.
  6. Registration with Verra for Carbon Crediting
