On September 30, 2024, over 60 industry leaders, policymakers, and development partners convened at the InterContinental Hotel, Dhaka, for the High-Level Roundtable Discussion on Plastic Waste Management Challenges and Solutions in Bangladesh.
Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEFCC), and the Ministry of Water Resources, spoke as the chief guest. She stressed the irreversible damage caused by plastic pollution and called for collective efforts to control transboundary plastic pollution.
Notable figures, including Rokeya Khaton – Director General of SACEP, Gayle Martin – Operations Manager of the World Bank Bangladesh, Sudhir Muralidharan – Country Manager of UNOPS Bangladesh, Marie Masdupuy – Ambassador, Ambassade de France au Bangladesh – French Embassy in Dhaka, and Tapan Kumar Biswas, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) also spoke at the event. Representatives from other government institutes, diplomatic missions including the Embassy of Sweden, Royal Norwegian Embassy in Dhaka, Embassy of the Netherlands in Bangladesh, and intergovernmental organizations such as Asian Development Bank, UNIDO – United Nations Industrial Development Organization, and UNICEF, as well as civil society organizations and the private sector participated in discussions.
