This initiative aims to reduce over 60,000 metric tonnes of carbon emissions, through effective plastic collection, with rag pickers forming the backbone. Training, capacity building of rag pickers, group formation, creation of infrastructure for PW storage and segregation. UNDP, in partnership with Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages, works with 30,000 such waste pickers, most of whom are women, to better manage 85000 metric tonnes of plastic waste, while improving the socio-economic conditions of these waste pickers. The project is operational in 36 cities, with 22 Material Recovery Centers (Swachhta Kendras) established for sustainable waste management practices. Through these centers, the project has reached out to 5500 Safai Sathis, in an effort to institutionalize workers from the informal sector. UNDP was felicitated as a key partner by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs at the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2020 under the Swachh Bharat Mission
