On 22 May 2025, two new community Drop-Off Centres (DOCs) were inaugurated in Kelki and Hejo, Thimphu under the PLEASE Project. Led by the Bhutan Ecological Society (BES), in collaboration with Thimphu Thromde and Gross International Nature (GIN), the DOCs enable waste segregation at source while fostering local partnerships and youth-led recycling solutions.
Collected waste is transported to Bjemina for conversion into high-value products like UR Bricks and PET pellets—contributing to a circular economy. The centres also support social inclusion by providing income opportunities and housing for local waste workers.
