On January 17, 2025, the Advisory Committee for the Island Climate Initiative’s (ICI) project, “Increasing the Circularity of Plastics in Sri Lanka’s FMCG Packaging,” held its first meeting since the agreement between ICI and the PLEASE Project in August 2024. The committee includes experts in plastic circularity, industry representatives, certification bodies, and the Central Environmental Authority (CEA).

Established to provide expert guidance and strategic oversight, the committee is instrumental in ensuring the project stays on track, addressing risks and challenges, and supporting long-term sustainability. Members will convene monthly to oversee progress and key decisions.

Funded under the PLEASE Project, this initiative plays a critical role in enhancing plastic waste management in Sri Lanka, ensuring that FMCG packaging moves toward greater circularity and long-term environmental impact.
