A significant milestone for Project BLUECAP! Led by the Negombo Recycling Club (NRC), the project has successfully completed the installation of 12 trash barriers across key waterways identified through a comprehensive hotspots mapping initiative.

Project BLUECAP aims to drastically reduce the amount of plastic pollution entering the ocean via rivers, streams, and canals. By strategically placing these barriers, BLUECAP is actively intercepting waste before it reaches the marine environment, protecting vital ecosystems and the beauty of the coastline.

This achievement is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and collaborative spirit of the NRC team, local communities, and other valued partners. With 12 barriers now in place, they are already witnessing their positive impact. BLUECAP remains committed to achieving the goal of installing a total of 30 barriers, and will continue to monitor their effectiveness and explore further solutions to combat plastic pollution.
